DEAN'S WELCOME ADDRESS

We welcome our students both new and returning to the 2018/2019 session; and to our academic and non-teaching staff as we open another page in the history of the Faculty of Education and UMYU at large. The faculty is dedicated to ensuring a high quality and electrifying educational system that reflects the contemporary international standards. The faculty participates in teaching, research and community engagement ensuring the achievement of the intellectual skills needed for the sustenance of our educational sector in the state and nation at large.

Thank you for your interest in the Faculty of Education at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University. The faculty has more than 15 programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels for teachers, information specialist and researchers, providing instructions in various fields. Our programmes are designed based on the specification and required curriculum inputs to serve individuals who are interested in teaching and information delivery in line with the 21st century requirements.

As part of the faculty activities geared towards achieving the vision of the university, members of the faculty engage in a number of research initiatives to generate new knowledge about teaching, develop and apply new theories to classroom teaching, initiate and evaluate educational policies and providing the necessary skills for searching, retrieving, processing, utilization, storage and dissemination of information and knowledge.

As advocates of information and knowledge transfer, we engage in community outreach through the provision of volunteer teaching programme to primary and secondary schools in collaboration with principals and Headmasters of various schools towards increasing students’ learning abilities for better educational achievements. We endeavor to occupy a central role in supporting a vibrant academic culture in the educational sector supported by the application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), teaching principles, information literacy skills acquisition and exchange/sharing of new knowledge in the context of education in Nigeria.
